Dark Site
I am looking for a Dark Site on Oahu.
I need a dark location to use my telescope. As you may know, to view the stars well, the sky needs to be as dark as possible. Oahu doesn't have many dark places, and even less places where you can legally and safely be at night. Almost all public parks on Oahu have signs posted that you can not be in the park between 10pm and 5am. As an astrophotographer, this is prime time for me.
Astrophotography requires several hours of work to capture the fine details in faint galaxies and nebulas. So I am hoping that someone knows a place, maybe your uncles farm, something like that, where I can use my telescope legally and safely in the middle of the night. It would need to be as dark as possible, and free of clouds for the most part. And be accessable almost any time, maybe even if it requires prior notification of me being there.
Eventually I would also like to be able to use this site for public tours, but that's another issue. If I can just get one place where myself and maybe a friend can come and do photography with the telescope, that would be great. If you know of such a place, please e-mail me at quarkcsj@hotmail.com
